Hot Mess

HOT MESS is a riotous theatre-comedy set entirely inside a club bathroom, where a group of women collide over the course of one chaotic night out. It was developed by Hannah Grace Fulton, Courtney Ammenhauser, Jenna Suffern, Mây Trần, Jessica, Adie, Alicia Dulnuan-Demou and Tasha O’Brien.

Hot Mess was first developed for Old 505 Theatre’s FRESHWORKS FEMME season in 2019, before being redeveloped for Kings Cross Theatre’s 2021 main stage season, where it had a sold-out 2 week run and received rave reviews.

Press Quotes

"Hot Mess has all the best elements of a silver screen chick flick, grounded in a relatable contemporary Sydney context with a queer feminine edge. It reveals unapologetically honest representations of life as a woman in the city…. This show is an excellent example of a successful collaborative creative approach, bringing together a hell of a lot of smarts to make something wonderfully stupid (in the best possible way). There were, actually, not too many cooks in the toilets. This production takes elements that could be weaknesses and turns them into strengths.”

Time out (4 stars)

“It’s a love letter to messiness that centres and uplifts the experiences of women, queer women, and non-binary people and is packed with observational humour about queer dating, adulthood, and friendship. On opening night a loud and responsive audience was clearly delighted to see and be seen… it’s also very funny.”
